Audio Cylinder and Disk Scanning and Sound Generation Service

TaiCaan Technologies have developed the first commericial cylinder recording player that non-contact optical scannning technique which can retrieve audio from cylinderss and disks without risking the damage that would be caused by traditional stylus recovery methods

(Right - A wax audio cylinder)

The surface map is used to identify the grooves and a 'virtual' stylus follows the groove trajactory

(Right - a close up of a groove and the path the 'virtual' stylus)

The system measures the entire surface of the cylinder or disk using an optical confocal sensor which creates an ultra high precision 3D map of the surface and the grooves

(Left - an overview of the map of the cylinder surface)

The path of the virtual stylus is then converted into an audio signal

Examples of recovered audio and further technical details can be found at the link to the Sound Archive Project (below)
